One of Manhattan many small museums with a specific subject. Perfect to spend an hour or two. We saw an exhibit on children's book illustrations, just delightful! And another on women's cartoons (like from the New Yorker). And there's a bar on the top floor adjoining an outdoor seating area. Check out what's current and go.
Very cool space, small and quiet, four stories of spectacular illustrations. Happened to pass by while they had Niel Gaiman pieces by Colleen Doran. There’s a restaurant/bar in there, was open but not running while I was there (around 3pm). Overall inspiring yet relaxing experience. As a NYPL holding New Yorker you can get in for free using Culture Pass, $15 otherwise.
It’s absolutely amazing here and I just love the vibe. The employees are very nice and there’s just so much beautiful and interesting art. The third floor is definitely the best one but I love the basement too! It’s such a quiet and chill place and I definitely recommend visiting.
A wonderful niche museum. The temp exhibitions were great and the bartender was so awesome and many of the staff are illustrators and designers themselves so they are so informed and passionate about the work! I'll be back :) oh! And there is an outside patio that is lovely in the late summer
I’ve been wanting to come here for sometime and I finally made it. Really cool place & friendly staff . I attended an event in the bar area on the 3rd floor . The talk was personable , laid back , informative , & just right in length . Lots of interesting drawings/art line the staircases and walls . All of them are uniquely absorbing . Can’t wait to go back and spend more time here . Gift shop wasn’t open when I went but I could see it was small but mighty with hand picked treasures .
Beautiful collection of illustrations and fun events. I was there for the Drink and Draw on some Wednesdays. Very cozy museum full bar. Worth the visit.
Went to the costume live model sketch night for a date. Was a fun activity to try. I’m definitely an amateur doodler so it was fun to peek at what some of the more experienced artists were working on. The atmosphere was not too intimidating to jump in.
Hidden gem. Upstairs is a nice bar and lounge. Not crowded. Interesting exhibits like sketches from concept art from TV shows. Not very big but worth a visit. I got in free because I'm a NARM member.
